Who the Horse and Greyhound Award covers
The Horse and Greyhound Award covers employers and their employees in the horse and greyhound training industry.
Employees are covered if the award has a classification for the work they do.
The horse and greyhound training industry means the training and preparation of:
- animals for the thoroughbred
- trotting
- harness
- greyhound racing industries
and covers the roles of:
- pre-training
- grooming
- fending
- handling
- stabling and exercising of animals
- cleaning
- care and maintenance of stables and training equipment
- care and leading in of horses at race meetings.
Examples of employees covered by the Horse and Greyhound Award include:
- stablehands
- track riders
- stable foremen
- training assistants
- trainers
- apprentice jockeys.
The Horse and Greyhound Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the horse and greyhound training industry.

Who the Horse and Greyhound Award doesn't cover
The following employers and employees are not covered by the Horse & Greyhound Award:
- stablehands who work:
- in horse breeding
- on a horse stud
- in recreational horse riding schools and equestrian centres
- in shows and competitions (not racing or equestrian)
- employers and employees who:
- breed horses
- own recreational horse riding schools and/or equestrian centres
- clerical and administrative employees.
