The Mobile Crane Hiring Award covers employers in the mobile crane hire industry. It also covers their employees if the award has a classification for the work they do.

Employees are covered if the award has a classification for the work they do.

The mobile crane hiring industry means businesses who hire out mobile cranes, mobile elevated work platforms and similar equipment, as well as people to operate them, to clients.

These clients hire these types of equipment for reasons like:

  • work on construction projects
  • providing and servicing materials handling equipment, lifting and machinery movement equipment and earthmoving and construction plant hire
  • civil contracting plant and mobile units for quarrying and mining projects
  • dig load and haul projects.

Hiring the cranes can be on an hourly, daily or contract basis, depending on the work.

Examples of employees covered by the Mobile Crane Hiring Award includes:

  • mobile crane employees
  • mobile crane operators
  • mobile hydraulic platform operators
  • counterweight/gear truck drivers
  • slew crane operators
  • riggers.

The Mobile Crane Hiring Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the mobile crane hire industry.

Who the Mobile Crane Hiring Award doesn’t cover

The following employers and employees are not covered by the Mobile Crane Hiring Award:

  • clerical and administration workers
  • plant operators who work in the construction industry
  • machinery maintenance employees.

The Mobile Crane Hiring Award doesn’t cover employers and employees when they’re covered by one of the following awards:

  • Manufacturing Award
  • Building and Construction Award.
