Who the Transport (Cash) Award covers

The Transport (Cash) Award covers employers in the cash in transit industry and their employees who fit within the classifications in the award.

The cash in transit industry means the transport of cash and other valuables.

Cash and other valuables means:

  • cash
  • securities and other financial instruments
  • bullion
  • other precious good and materials including gold and jewels
  • other commercially negotiable articles and/or transactions.

Employees covered by the Transport (Cash) Award include:

  • escorts
  • armoured vehicle operators
  • crew leaders
  • non-armoured (soft skin) vehicle operators.

An armoured vehicle is a vehicle designed specifically for payroll services, transport of cash, bullion and valuables. The design includes armour plate windscreens and windows and the body of the vehicle constructed to withstand armed attack.

A non-armoured (soft skin) vehicle that isn’t an armoured vehicle used in the transportation of cash and other valuables in either a covert or overt manner.

The Transport (Cash) Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the cash in transit industry.

Who the Transport (Cash) Award doesn’t cover

The following employers and employees are not covered by the Transport (Cash) Award:

  • employees who carry out cash in transit work as a minor part of other security work
  • clerical and administrative employees
  • security guards who work for a security business that doesn’t transport cash
  • employers and employees in the general road transport industry.
