Who the Waste Award covers

The Waste Award covers employers in the waste management industry and their employees who fit within the classifications in the award.

The waste management industry means:

  • collecting
  • transporting
  • handling
  • recycling
  • disposing

of any waste material whatsoever.

Waste material can be:

  • solid or liquid
  • organic
  • biological
  • medical
  • raw or natural
  • wholly or partly manufactured
  • decomposed or partly decomposed

or in any other state or form and including all domestic, trade and industrial waste.

The waste management industry also includes operating:

  • transfer stations
  • landfill sites
  • incinerators
  • recycling depots
  • yards or terminals
  • treatment plants
  • compost facilities
  • alternative waste treatment facilities

and any other similar facilities.

Examples of employees covered by the Waste Award include:

  • labourer or depot workers
  • facility attendants
  • process workers
  • offsiders/runners/drivers of vehicles, trucks, road sweepers, earthmoving plant and truck mounted loading cranes
  • sanitary waste truck drivers
  • incinerator operators.

The Waste Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the waste industry.
