Who the Poultry Award covers
The Poultry Award covers employers in the poultry processing industry and their employees who fit within the classifications of the award.
The poultry processing industry means:
- killing
- processing
- preparing
- packing
- wholesaling
- distributing
of uncooked poultry and poultry products and by-products. It also includes cooked poultry and poultry products and by-products if cooking is incidental to the above.
Examples of employees covered by the Poultry Award include:
- leading hands
- process employees, including employees who:
- operate machinery
- receive, sort and pack goods
- mince
- fill
- operate de-bone machines
- operate flavour injectors and mixers
- operate weighing machines
- measure
- grade
- sort and select boneless products
- maintain plant hygiene
- load trays
- rehang poultry
- and other poultry processing work.
The Poultry Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed within an organisation in the poultry processing industry.

Who the Poultry Award doesn't cover
The following employees are not covered by the Poultry Award:
- employees who prepare poultry products in a retail shop
- shop assistants
- employers in the meat industry.
