Who the Marine Tourism and Charter Vessels Award covers

The Marine Tourism and Charter Vessels Award covers employers in the marine tourism and charter vessels industry and their employees who fit in a classification in the award.

The marine tourism and charter vessels industry means:

  • operating vessels engaged on day or overnight charters wholly or principally as a tourist, sightseeing, sailing or cruise vessel, and/or
  • vessels used for entertainment, functions and restaurants/food and beverage purposes that provide water orientated tourism, leisure and/or recreational activities.

It doesn’t include ferries engaged in regular scheduled passenger and/or commuter transport.

Examples of employees covered by Marine Tourism and Charter Vessels Award include:

  • crew who perform the following duties:
    • service, hospitality and entertainment of passengers
    • prepare vessels for departure
    • set, trim and strike sails
    • stock and dispense liquor
    • prepare meals
    • order stores
  • dive masters/dive instructors
  • coxswains
  • master V / IV
  • engineer MED I / II / III.

The Marine Tourism and Charter Vessels Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the marine tourism and charter vessels industry.

Who the Marine Tourism and Charter Vessels Award doesn’t cover

The following employers and employees are not covered by the Marine Tourism and Charter Vessels Award:

  • clerical and administrative employees.

It doesn’t include ferries engaged in regular scheduled passenger and/or commuter transport.
