Sending employees home early in the Security Award
An employee that is sent home early gets paid at least the minimum shift duration at their minimum hourly rate for that shift.
The minimum shift duration depends on an employee’s employment type. Minimum shift durations are:
- full-time employees – 7.6 hours
- part-time employees – 4 hours or 20% of their agreed weekly hours (if this is more than 4 hours), or
- casual employees – 4 hours.
Example
Chalita works as a casual security guard. She is rostered to work on Saturday.
She’s asked by her employer to go home after 2 hours work because it is quiet.
She gets paid for 4 hours work at her Saturday pay rate.
