Board of Reference in the Textile & Clothing Award
The Textile and Clothing Award refers to a Board of Reference.
What is a Board of Reference?
Boards of Reference are established under Schedule F of the Textile Award and are usually chaired by someone from the Fair Work Commission. There is a Board of Reference in most capital cities. A Board of Reference consists of:
- 2 union representatives
- 2 principal representatives
- the general manager of the Fair Work Commission or their nominee.
If the group is equally divided on an issue, the chairperson vote counts as a majority.
What does the Board of Reference do?
The Board of Reference can deal with any matter in Schedule F of the Textile Award.
A Board of Reference registers principals (usually employers). This needs to be done before an employer can engage an outworker.
