Award coverage for medical practitioners
The Medical Practitioners Award covers medical practitioners employed in the following workplaces:
- hospitals
- hospices
- benevolent homes
- day procedure centres
- aboriginal health services
- community health centres
- the Red Cross Blood Service
- the South Australian Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science
- the Victorian Cytology Service
- the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine.
Other workplaces
Medical practitioners employed in other workplaces not covered by the Medical Practitioners Award can be covered by an industry based award if their employer operates in the industry defined in the award and there is a classification which matches the employee’s duties.
If they’re not covered by an industry award, no award covers medical practitioners.
They’re entitled to the national minimum wage and the National Employment Standards.
They’re not covered by:
- the Health Services Award because they're excluded from coverage,
- the Miscellaneous Award because the award doesn’t cover professional employees.
