Two-driver operations in the Passenger Vehicle Award

What is a two-driver operation?

It’s any express, charter or tour operation where a two-driver team shares the driving and non-driving work for the whole or a major part of a trip or tour.

How are they paid?

Each driver in a two-driver team is paid for all time worked. This includes non-driving time.

What penalty rates apply?

Drivers in a two-driver team get paid:

  • 125% of the minimum hourly rate for Saturday
  • 150% of the minimum hourly rate for Sunday
  • 100% of the minimum hourly rate for each hour worked and an extra 8 hours pay at ordinary time for public holidays
  • 125% of the minimum hourly rate for each hour worked and an extra 8 hours pay at ordinary time for Good Friday and Christmas Day public holidays.

Example

Dante and Lynne are a two-driver team driving a charter bus from Sydney to Melbourne on a Wednesday.

Dante drives for 4 hours and Lynne drives for 5 hours.

Dante and Lynne are each paid for 9 hours of work.
