What does ‘pay period commencing on or after’ mean?
When there’s a change to an award, it generally starts from the first full pay period on or after a certain date. For example, new wage rates apply from the first full pay period on or after 1 July each year.
Example
The 2015 wage increase applied from the first full pay period commencing on or after 1 July 2015. 1 July 2015 was a Wednesday.
A business pays its employees weekly, and their pay period starts on a Monday.
The next pay period commencing on or after 1 July 2015 for this business is 6 July 2015. This means that the employees received the wage increase for any work from Monday 6 July 2015.
