Award coverage for conveyancers

Award coverage for a conveyancer depends on the specific duties and qualifications of the employee.

States and territories have their own licensing requirements that specify who can do conveyancing work.

In the Australian Capital Territory and Queensland, only solicitors are able to do conveyancing work. In other states and territories, licensed conveyancers are also able to do conveyancing work.

In Western Australia, conveyancers are known as Settlement Agents.

Solicitors

A solicitor undertaking conveyancing work in a law firm is award free.

Solicitors are entitled to the national minimum wage and the National Employment Standards.

Licensed conveyancers

A licensed conveyancer employed by a law firm or a licensed conveyancing business will be covered by the Legal Services Award. Their classification depends on their duties, skills, qualifications, and experience.

Clerical and administrative staff

Clerical and administrative staff who do some conveyancing work in a law firm or licensed conveyancing business can be covered by the Legal Services Award. Their classification will depend on their duties and qualifications.
