Who the Airline Ground Staff Award covers

The Airline Ground Staff Award covers employers in the airline operations industry and their employees who fit within the classifications of the award. 

The airline operations industry means:

  • operating, and/or
  • related on-airport servicing of

aircraft that are used for

  • commercial passenger
  • freight air transport services
  • private business
  • instructional flying

in, and from a base in, Australia.

Examples of employees covered by the Airline Ground Staff Award include:

  • airlines services operators and co-ordinators
  • baggage handlers
  • customer service employees
  • administrative employees
  • aircraft workers
  • aircraft maintenance engineers
  • engineering tradespersons
  • employees who hold category A, B1/B2 or C licences
  • storepersons and logistics workers.

The Airline Ground Staff Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the airline operations industry.

Who the Airline Ground Staff Award doesn’t cover     

The following employers and employees are not covered by the  Airline Ground Staff Award:

  • in-flight catering businesses and their employees
  • air pilots
  • aircraft cabin crew
  • employees employed by an employer who operates an airport.
