Who the Book Award covers
The Book Award covers employers in the book industry and their employees who fit within the classifications of the award.
The book industry means the:
- receipt
- perusal
- editing, or
- preparation of manuscripts and other material (written, drawn or photographic)
for publication in book form, or the supervision of such work.
It also includes any writing, drawing or photographic work used for publications in books, that is used for publicity or public relations purposes, other than work which is substantially engaged in marketing.
Examples of employees and employers covered by the Book Award includes:
- proofreaders and editors
- publicists.
The Book Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the book industry.

Who the Book Award doesn't cover
The following employers and employees are not covered by the Book Award:
- executives or managers in the book industry
- publishers
- designers, writers and drawers that are not engaged substantially for work to be published book form
- employers who bind and print books
- employees who are engaged mainly to do clerical and administrative work.
