Who the Dredging Award covers

The Dredging Award covers employers in the dredging industry and their employees who fit within the classifications of the award.

The dredging industry means:

  • operating vessels in dredging or sluicing work, including work relating to land reclamation, metalliferous and other mining, and oil and gas projects, and
  • operating:

    • vessels
    • barges
    • self-propelled dredges
    • tugs, or
    • other self-propelled vessels

    that are used in the dredging of ports, harbours, bays, estuaries, rivers and channels requiring travelling to or from a dumping area, or while moving from port to port.

    Examples of employees covered by the Dredging Award includes:

    • engineer
    • operator
    • drilling technician
    • mechanical attendant
    • crane operator/mechanical
    • electrician
    • leading hand (reclamation)
    • driller
    • dredgehand
    • greaser
    • crew attendant.

    The Dredging Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the dredging industry.

Who the Dredging Award doesn’t cover

The following employees are not covered by the Dredging Award:

  • clerical and administrative employees
  • maintenance contractors covered by the Manufacturing Award.

The Dredging Award doesn’t cover employers that are covered by one of the following awards:

  • Coal Export Terminals Award
  • Marine Towage Award
  • Offshore Oil and Gas Award
  • Ports, Harbours and Enclosed Water Vessels Award
  • Port Authorities Award
  • Seagoing Award
  • Stevedoring Award
