Other help for regulated workers

Regulated workers and regulated businesses can get help from other agencies and organisations.

Education and assistance

We (the Fair Work Ombudsman) provide education, assistance and advice to:

  • regulated workers
  • regulated businesses (such as a ride share company)
  • registered organisations (like employer associations and unions).

We can provide advice on orders, guidelines and collective agreements for regulated workers once they’re issued by the Fair Work Commission (the Commission). The Commission is the national workplace relations tribunal and registered organisations regulator.

We can also investigate and take compliance action to enforce binding rules in:

Penalties may apply for breaches of orders or agreements, like existing penalties for other breaches of the Fair Work Act.

Minimum standards orders, guidelines and disputes

The Commission also provides information and education on laws covering regulated workers.

The Commission is responsible for making:

  • minimum standards orders and guidelines
  • road transport contractual chain orders and guidelines.

The Commission can also register collective agreements and resolve disputes between regulated workers and businesses when they’re making those agreements.

The Commission can help resolve disputes about:

  • unfair deactivation from a digital platform for employee-like workers
  • unfair termination of a contract for regulated road transport contractors
  • unfair terms in a services contract
  • protections at work, such as workplace delegates’ rights.

Regulated workers and businesses should contact their relevant state and territory body for advice and assistance. Go to Workplace health and safety.

Legal help

There are situations where regulated workers or businesses may need to seek legal advice. For information about legal advice and referrals, visit Legal help.

Tax and super

Regulated workers are contractors. This means they’re usually responsible for their own tax and superannuation (super).

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) gives advice and assistance on tax and super issues.

Learn more about contractor tax and super obligations from the ATO: Working as a contractor. If you have questions about tax and super, contact the ATO.
