Planning for the holiday season
Employers and employees need to start planning how their businesses will operate during the holiday season. Find out more about the rules and entitlements during the end-of-year holiday season.
If you’re an employer bringing on new staff during the holiday season, or an employee starting a new job, learn the essentials for starting employment.
Tip – Information statements
Employers must give every new employee one or more information statements when they start work. This includes:
- Fair Work Information Statement for all employees regardless of their employment type
- Casual Employment Information Statement for casuals
- Fixed Term Contract Information Statement for employees on a fixed term contract.
The Casual Employment Information Statement must also be provided at set times throughout an employee’s employment.

Recent changes to workplace laws
Several changes to workplace laws started on 26 August 2024 as part of the Closing Loopholes reforms. This included changes to casual employment, a new right to disconnect, independent contractor changes and new regulated worker rules.
