Apprentice pay rates in the Joinery Award
Pay rates for apprentices are worked out by the:
- length of the apprenticeship
- employee's age when they start the apprenticeship.
Pay rates also depend on when the employee started working as an apprentice. This could be before or after their apprenticeship contract is signed.
Started before 1 January 2014
The ‘before 1 January 2014 rates’ are paid if the apprentice started their apprenticeship before 1 January 2014.
This is the case even if the apprentice signed their contract after 1 January 2014.
Started on or after 1 January 2014
The ‘after 1 January 2014 rates’ are paid if the apprentice started their apprenticeship on or after 1 January 2014.
This is the case even if the apprentice signed their contract before 1 January 2014.
Modern Awards Review 2012 - Apprentices, Trainees and Juniors [2013] FWCFB 5411 - inserted the new apprenticeship payment provisions.
