Counting apprentice service for redundancy pay
Apprentices don't get National Employment Standards (NES) redundancy pay.
When an employee who was an apprentice continues working for the same employer after their apprenticeship ends, their time as an apprentice counts as continuous service for NES redundancy pay.
However, some awards and registered agreements have an Industry Specific Redundancy Scheme that:
- applies instead of NES redundancy pay
- has special rules about counting apprentice service.
