Part-time apprenticeships
An apprentice can be part-time if their award:
- provides for part-time employment
- includes apprenticeship terms
- doesn’t prohibit part-time apprenticeships
- doesn’t limit apprenticeships to full-time employees only.
Example
The Plumbing Award says that apprentices will be employed on a full-time basis. However, it also says that school-based apprentices and peak sports apprentices can be employed part-time.
This means that plumbing and fire sprinkler fitting apprentices can only be employed part-time if they’re a school-based apprentice or a peak sports apprentice.
