Who the Sporting Organisations Award covers

The Sporting Organisations Award covers employers in National, State and Territory sporting organisations, and their employees who fit within the classification of the award.

National sporting organisations means either:

  • the national governing body for a sport, or
  • the organisation that conducts elite level national competitions for a sport.

State and Territory sporting organisations means:

  • the governing body for a sport at State or Territory level
  • the organisation that conducts State or Territory elite level competition for a sport, or
  • the governing body for non-metropolitan areas (eg. country) in states or territories where the governing bodies are split between metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas for a sport.

Examples of employees covered by the Sporting Organisations Award includes:

  • coaches
  • clerical and administrative workers.

The Sporting Organisations Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed in a National, State and Territory sporting organisation.

Who the Sporting Organisations Award doesn’t cover

The following employers and employees are not covered by the Sporting Organisations Award:

  • chief executive officers
  • chief executive officers and executive officers in second and third tiers of management such as Directors of Finance, Assistant Directors and State coaches or similar at the Cricket Australia level, provided that the State coach is remunerated at a level in excess of that laid down in this award
  • coaches employed by the Australian Football League and Victorian Football league who don’t earn their main income from coaching
  • coaches in the Victorian State Football League Under 18 program
  • employees of racing clubs.
