Award coverage for sushi vendors
We are currently reviewing this article as a result of a Fair Work Commission decision to change the coverage clause of the Fast Food Award. The changes are effective from the first full pay period starting on or after 28 July 2022.

Award coverage depends where the business prepares and sells sushi and related products to the general public.
Sushi stands in supermarkets
The Retail Award covers sushi stands operated by supermarkets.
The Fast Food Award covers sushi stands that aren’t operated by supermarkets.
Sushi restaurants
The Restaurant Award covers sushi restaurants where customers mainly dine-in.
Sushi shops
The Fast Food Award covers:
- take away sushi shops in retail complexes including food courts
- stand-alone take away sushi shops which aren’t in retail complexes or part of retail shops.
