Who is a graduate in the Hair & Beauty Award?

A graduate is an employee who completed their certificate or diploma through full-time study. A graduate is not an employee who has completed an apprenticeship or traineeship.

There are 2 types of graduates:

  1. Hairdressing graduates have a Certificate III in Hairdressing. These employees aren’t trade-qualified because they don’t have enough work experience. They get paid a percentage of the standard rate in their first 12 months of work.
  2. Beauty therapy graduates have a Certificate III or IV or a Diploma in Beauty Therapy. Similar to hairdressing graduates, they aren’t qualified because they don’t have enough work experience. They get paid a percentage of the standard rate in their first 12 months of work.
