Award coverage for fence installers
Award coverage for employees installing fences depends on:
- the industry of the employer
- whether there’s a classification in the relevant award which matches the employee’s duties and skills.
Building and Construction Award
Employees are covered by the Building and Construction Award if their employer generally only installs fences.
Example
Ella is the leading hand for a business that specialises in installing fencing around residential sites and on farming properties.
Ella demolishes, repairs and installs fences. The business doesn’t offer any other services outside of fencing work.
Ella is covered by the Building and Construction Award.
Manufacturing Award
Employees are covered by the Manufacturing Award if their employer manufactures, repairs and installs fences.
Pastoral Award
Employees are covered by the Pastoral Award if:
- their employer is in the pastoral industry
- fencing work is done as part of the employee’s duties within the pastoral industry.
Horticulture Award
Employees are covered by the Horticulture Award if:
- their employer is in the Horticulture industry
- fencing work is done as part of the employee’s duties within the horticulture industry.
Example
Turkay is a level 4 employee in an apple orchard. One of the duties he sometimes has is the installation, replacement, or repair of fences around the orchard.
His employer is in the horticulture industry. Fencing makes up a small part of the tasks that Turkay performs on the farm as part of his duties.
Turkay is covered by the Horticulture Award when he does this work.
