Payment for two-up driving arrangements in the Road Transport (Long Distance) Award

What’s a two-up driving arrangement?

It’s when there are 2 drivers in the vehicle at one time.

One employee drives while the other one rests or sleeps. Then they swap.

How are they paid?

The employee is paid for the driving component. When an employee is driving they’ll be paid their minimum driving rate.

When the employee is resting or sleeping, and not driving, they won’t be paid.

In addition to the minimum driving rate they will also get:

  • payment for loading and unloading duties when it applies
  • the travelling allowance when it applies
  • any other allowances that apply.
