Award coverage depends on what the business makes.

Joinery Award

The Joinery Award covers businesses preparing, decorating and assembling joinery, mainly in timber.

This includes:

  • shopfitting components, such as showcases and partitions
  • stairs made in a workshop and not on a construction site.

Employees can be classified as Joiners.

Timber Award

The Timber Award covers businesses:

  • cabinet making, wood machining any article of furniture, including in-built furniture. This includes kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities and wardrobes.
  • making frames, trusses, doors, windows from wood or timber. This includes roof trusses, wall frames, door frames and window frames.

Employees can be classified as:

  • Cabinetmakers
  • Carpenter/Joiners.

Building and Construction Award

The Building and Construction Award covers businesses constructing, altering or installing cabinetry in a work environment that is on a construction site. This includes installing kitchen cabinets.

It doesn’t cover businesses that do shopfitting.

Employees can be classified as Carpenter/Joiners.

What if an employer could be covered by more than 1 award?

The award that covers the employer is the one that has the most suitable classification for the work their employees do.
